System of Graduation

The fundamentals of our group are based on human development, both emotionally, mentally and physically, from infancy through to maturity. Thus an analogy between the ages and the colours of each Corda (belt) is made. In drawing this parallel the individual will be able to have a foundation both ethical and moral that guides and explains his/her actions, both inside and outside of the Roda, taking them to full maturity and true mastery.

:: Adult Graduation - Above 15 years

 

:: Aluno - Student

Corda Crua (Raw belt) - THRESHOLD - Represents the desire to learn Capoeira, and to establish themselves within the principles of AJITU

Corda Crua e Amarela (Raw an Yellow belt) - Perfecting previous Corda principles

Corda Amarela (Yellow belt) - SPIRITUALITY - The spiritual awakening of the soul through the principles of AJITU.

Corda Amarela e Laranja (Yellow and Orange belt) Perfecting previous Corda principles

Corda Laranja (Orange belt) - GROWTH - The Capoeirista intrinsically understands the ideals and traditions of Capoeira and of AJITU.

Corda Laranja e Azul Claro (Orange and light blue) - Perfecting previous Corda principles

 

:: Aluno Graduado - Graduate Student

Corda Azul Claro (Light Blue belt) - AWAKENING - In this phase the student discovers the fundamentals of Capoeira; its history, music, combat and playful techniques.

Corda Azul Claro e Azul Escuro (Light Blue and Dark Blue belt) - Perfecting previous Corda principles

 

:: Graduado - Graduate

Corda Azul Escuro (Blue belt) - CONSCIENCE - The Capoeirista starts to dominate the fundamentals  of Capoeira, and be mindful of the verbal and practical transmission
of these teachings and of the ideals of AJITU

Corda Azul Escuro e Verde (Blue and Green belt) - Perfecting previous Corda principles 

 

:: Instrutor - Instructor

Corda Verde (Green belt) MATURITY - Realization of the ideals, dynamism in the actions and responsibility for the behavior, are all essential characteristic that flourish in the heart of the Capoeirista in this phase of learning.

Corda Verde e Roxa (Green and Purple belt) - Perfecting previous Corda principles

Corda Roxa (Purple belt) - RESPONSIBILITY - Synthesis of the paths and knowledge of life, self determination and vast creativity combined with the conscience and comprehension of the fundamental principles of AJITU.

Corda Roxa e Marrom (Purple and Brown belt) - Perfecting previous Corda principles

 

:: CONTRA-MESTRE

Corda Marrom - (Brown belt) - MATURITY - Understanding of the past and broad vision of the future, based on life experiences that lead to the solidification and internalization of a philosophy of life. An awakening for a fuller and deeper understanding of life and of Capoeira. One forms a different way of being and living.

Corda Marrom e Vermelha - (Brown and Red belt) - Perfecting previous Corda principles 

 

:: MESTRE - mASTER

Corda Vermelha - (Red belt) VIRTUE - Work, Development, Conscience and Respect for Capoeira, Society and the World are embraced at this stage. The nature of the master is now capable to overcome the difficulties of life, having acquired strength of character, a humble spirit and virtue in all areas. At this stage of maturity the gap between the individual and the Capoeirista no longer exists. The two become one, unity of the mind and the body. The master has the disciplines and honorability to fight for the ideals of Capoeira and of AJITU. 

 

:: eSTAGIÁRIO - tRAINEE

 

Corda Laranja e Verde - (Orange and Green belt) Trainee - It is time to adapt for a new path in Capoeira. All fundamental knowledge already acquired from past journeys up to the present moment, will become more valuable and relevant for this new phase. Therefore, the Capoeirista will be able to write and define one more page in their history, becoming an effective and productive part of AJITU Capoeira.

 

:: Infant and Junior Graduation
From 3 years old Up to 14 years old

 

 

:: Infant Graduation

Movement is an essential action of a child’s life. Therefore, when exploring different, unknown objects, situations and environments, they learn to live and develop their spontaneous physical activities. Capoeira stimulates the senses and provides movement, which in turn will help develop their physical abilities.

 

:: Junior Graduation

The junior pupil needs to overcome their inner fears and to develop themselves as young person within the society. The beauty of the songs and the creativity of their bodily movements, the magic in playing the instruments, all organically stimulate a reflection of their own personal values. These are the first steps to the awakening of a conscientious and mature adult

This graduation will be slightly different from the adults as only the ends of each belt will be coloured.

Corda Amarela (Yellow ends) - Spacial Awareness

Corda Amarela e Laranja (Yellow and Orange ends) -Spontaneous Reactions and Stimulation of the Senses

Corda Laranja (Orange ends) - Integration and Sociability.

Corda Laranja e Azul Claro (Orange and Light Blue ends) - CURIOSITY and DEVELOPMENT: This symbolizes the pupil’s quest for the learning of Capoeira and to establish themselves in the principles of AJITU.

Corda Azul Claro (Light Blue ends) - EDUCATION and RESPECT: The quest for knowledge and perfecting Capoeira. The pupil starts to understand the importance of integration, respect and devotion to Capoeira and to AJITU.

Corda Azul Claro e Azul Escuro (Light Blue and Dark Blue ends) – PREPARATION: threshold between infancy and adolescence. Internal transformation; in search of answers about oneself and Capoeira.

Corda Azul Escuro (Dark Blue ends) - PLAYFUL IMAGINATION and INTUITION - This is the phase where the ideals of the Capoeira are established. Acting always in accordance with the principles of honesty, camaraderie, companionship and good nature. Thus, acquiring the basic values to become a honest and conscientious adult.

Corda Azul Escuro e Verde (Dark Blue and Green ends) - Beginning of biological maturity and increased comprehension of their own physical potential

Corda Verde (Green ends) - PHYSICAL ABILITY and CREATIVITY. The awakening of the physical and spiritual conscience of the pupil in relation to themselves and to AJITU.

Corda Verde e Roxa (Dark Blue and green ends) - This sees the improvement of the singing and the playing of the berimbau. Here the pupil starts to prepare for the transition from adolescence to adulthood. They will then be able to assume a position of commitment in relation to AJITU, to the society and to Capoeira.
